Hello & Welcome!

My name is Kristin. I am the founder and owner of Apparition Atelier.
I am the artist and creator behind the brand, and each item from our jewellery, armour & accessory ranges have been lovingly designed and crafted by my own hands.

My creative journey began as a child - I would do many different crafts and arts with my mother, including painting, stained glass, plaster of paris sculpting, knitting, needlework, beading and more.

I learned the basics of woodwork with my Grandfather, and I also learned to play the piano, doing lessons and exams for around 8 years, while my father taught me to play the guitar.

Within the next few years I took guitar lessons, drama and singing lessons. I spent many years doing dance, with my primary focus being modern dance (I remember those exams being killer!) until in recent years when I started bellydance, which I had come to love from watching Bollywood movies with my Mom!

I was always encouraged to be creative and try my hand at different mediums from a young age, and that has followed me all my life. It was around 2006 when I started designing clothing and jewellery for myself.

I had started sewing by hand at a young age, making outfits for my Barbies.

From there I began sketching designs for clothing, which led me to eventually complete a Diploma in Dressmaking & a Certificate in Fashion Merchandising years later. In 2023 I was gifted with a new sewing machine by my Father, enabling me to create the items I'd wanted to for so long.

I first started properly designing and making jewellery in 2008, but it was only a few years later that I decided to try my hand at wire jewellery, as I had seen so many gorgeous pieces that I wanted to make.  Sadly, it didn't come naturally to me and I was not enjoying the process very much.  This led to me taking the metal rings I had bought with my wire supplies and putting them together.  Little did I know that I had just made a chainmaille weave!  I had heard of chainmaille before, but I never thought of it as something I'd do. However, when I looked up what I had just made, my interest was piqued, and I haven't looked back since.

The more I learned about Chainmaille, the more I wanted to try and explore. I had found a craft that resonated with me and that aligned with my interests. Growing up, I had always enjoyed stories like The Highlander and Xena: Warrior Princess, and I've always been drawn to Ireland, Scotland and old England, including anything Victorian & Tudor period and medieval. I've also had a deep love for Ancient Egypt, Rome & Greece, as the history really speaks to me. (One of my dreams is to visit Istanbul to see the historic sights there.)

Being able to create chainmaille pieces and bring the past to life in a new way excited me, and still does to this day. I also love that I can incorporate different ideas and mediums into my chainmaille pieces to give it a unique twist - from beads and resin to clay, I've had the best time incorporating different art forms to produce our one-of-a-kind designs and creations.

In 2021 we officially launched our apparel ranges. We currently have ready-to-wear items which include daily wear and swimwear. One of my biggest goals in life was to have my own clothing range, and I'm so proud to have started that journey! I remember how excited I was the day I received my sew in labels with our logo - it truly felt like a dream come true.

There is so much more I have to learn and so much more to come from Apparition.

I'm so proud of how far we've come! I have so many more ideas from childhood that I'd love to make a reality, so stick with us - the best is yet to come!

Apparition has been an amazing experience for me so far. I've learned so many new skills - from the jewellery design to the photography & editing, to all the aspects of running a business. I have done interviews & I trade at various events. This website has been live since April 2019 - built and maintained by me, and my work is also sold on Zando and Deviant South (It was previously listed on Voetsy, Hello Pretty & Takealot).

I've done it all myself (except for my logo, which was designed by a friend), and I've loved every minute of it.

I'm so excited to have you be a part of this journey! I can only thank you for including Apparition into your life.
