FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do you have a physical store?
    Our studio is currently run from home and we do not have a physical store at present. We are able to arrange a viewing, should this be requested. This can be done at info@apparition.co.za.
  • Where does your jewellery come from?
    Every item we stock is created by hand. We design and manufacture all of our jewellery, armour, accessories and apparel in-house.
  • Can I get an item in my size?
    We provide the sizes of the items we have in stock on each product page. If you require a smaller or larger size than we have displayed on the website, you can request your size via email. Simply mail the SKU (found on the product page) to info@apparition.co.za and give us the measurement you require.
  • Can I order something custom-made?
    Yes! We accept custom orders, where possible, dependent on our suppliers. Please email us at orders@apparition.co.za to place your order or do so via the form on our website. Be sure to specify exactly what it is you're looking for and we'll send you a quote. Please take note that custom orders may affect the final price of the item, depending on supplies and size of the item in question.
  • What are your products made from?
    Each product page specifies the materials used to create the product. In general, our products are made from either jewellery-grade Aluminum or Stainless Steel, unless otherwise specified. We also make use of Nickel-Free plated iron in our production, which typically includes earring hooks and chain. Some of our Aluminum jump rings are made in-house and hand-sawed by our artist. We also create our jewellery using Sterling Silver and 14K Gold-Filled & Plated Base Metals. This is dependent on supplier availability. Our Glow-in-the-Dark products are made using Engineered Plastic and EPDM Rubber. Our beads include Plastic, Glass, Wood, Ceramic and Metals. We also make use of Resin in some of our designs.
  • Are your products safe for sensitive skin?
    Our products are made using the highest quality materials at our disposal. These typically have a hypoallergenic and nickel-free coating. Despite this, some of the materials used may cause irritation for those with very sensitive skin. Individual product pages will specify the type of metals used in production. Should you prefer a specific material, you may get in touch at orders@apparition.co.za to place a custom order.
  • Does Apparition go on sale?
    We do have occasional sales throughout the year, although these do not happen regularly. Our products are priced based on the materials used and the complexity of the design. Each item’s price is determined individually.
  • What are Made to Order items?
    There are products on our website that are listed as "Order Now", and these are products that are not currently in stock. We are, however, are able to make them as you order them. If you choose to buy a product listed as "Order Now", these products still have to be manufactured and then shipped out. Each product listing will provide the timeframe for that product, but standard waiting time is 5 - 10 working days before delivery time.
  • Can I customize my order?
    While we do specify colour options on relevant products in our online store, you are able to request an item in a specific colour. This is dependent on our suppliers and may extend the production time. You are also able to specify a certain metal you prefer for a piece, however this is dependent on suppliers.
  • What if an item is unavailable?
    Certain items that are currently "Out of Stock" can be requested by selecting the "Notify when back in stock" option on the product page. Other items have the option for you to order despite it being out of stock - this is done by clicking the "Order Now" button. Should a product have neither of these options, that means that there are not enough materials on hand to create the desired product. Once we have sourced more materials, the relevant options will be made available again.
  • Does Apparition offer after-care services?
    We strive to provide the best customer experience, and you are therefore welcome to contact us at any point after your purchase should you require assistance, including repair services. Please note that our repair services are subject to an evaluation of the damage sustained. Should it be determined that the damage is due to a negligence of care on the behalf of the customer, after-care and repair services may be denied by us.
  • Do you offer a repair service?
    We offer a repair service on all products, providing the following conditions are met: The fault is a manufacturing error, such as a faulty jumpring or an erroneously completed weave. The damage is caused outside of regular care outlined in the FAQ, within the first 7 days of purchase.
  • Will my jewellery tarnish?
    Unfortunately, some items will tarnish over time. This is due to the skin and metal reacting to one another. There are things you can do to limit this effect (See 'How do I take care of my jewellery'). We do our best to source metals and supplies that will not tarnish to ensure you receive the highest quality goods, however this cannot always be guaranteed.
  • Should I wash the items?
    To clean your item after daily use, you should gently wipe it with a damp cloth or a wetwipe. Should you require to clean your item more intensely, you can make use of Sunlight soap. Rinse the item in lukewarm water, but do not leave the item in the water for an extended period of time. Rinse thoroughly after washing. Be sure to dry your item properly and thoroughly after this to avoid damage. You can dry the item with a hairdryer for the fastest results. Please ensure you don't expose any items with EPDM Rubber or Engineered Plastic to high heat.
  • How do I take care of my jewellery?
    Avoid contact with water or any liquids. - If possible, please avoid getting your jewellery wet. If the item does come in contact with water, be sure to thoroughly dry the item as soon as possible. Avoid wearing your items when exercising. - Sweat and oils will speed up tarnishing and most likely discolour the items. Avoid direct contact with household chemicals, perfumes and sprays. - If contact has been made, immediately wash the item with soap and water and dry thoroughly. Be gentle with your jewellery - Although the utmost care taken to ensure all rings are properly closed and that each item is well constructed, the items are susceptible to damage if mishandled. It is recommended to use micro-fiber cloths to clean your items. If you have questions regarding caring for your items, please get in touch at support@apparition.co.za.   • How are your products made?
    Chainmaille – Each item is created by completing a weave ring-by-ring. All items are created by hand to ensure attention to detail and the highest level of quality. Scalemaille – Each item is created by connecting every individual scale with a jumpring, one-at-a-time. Apparel – Our clothing items are made by hand, in-house, by the designer and owner of Apparition.
  • What are base metals?
    Base metals can include any combination of the following: iron, nickel, copper, brass and titanium, among others.
  • What are alloys?
    Alloys are metals that are made by combining two or more metallic elements, typically to provide greater strength or resistance to corrosion.
  • What forms of payment do you accept?
    Our online store makes use of various online payment options, including but not limited to: Credit Card Debit Card Instant EFT Mobicred You may also make manual payments through your bank. If in person, we accept cash, card, EFT and Snapscan.
  • Can I use multiple methods of payment?
    Yes. You are welcome to make a partial payment through one payment method and pay the rest of the amount through another payment method. Please ensure that all relevant proof of payment is sent to us immediately.
  • Do you offer monthly payment plan options?
    We have partnered with MobiCred to offer credit facilities for our product offering. You can sign up with MobiCred and then pay off your item in monthly instalments. Click here to sign up with MobiCred now.
  • Will I be charged sales tax?
    The product prices on our website includes VAT. You will not be charged any additional tax at checkout on our website.
  • Can I cancel or modify my order?
    We do allow this in certain circumstances. Should you place an order and then realise that something needs to be altered, please get in touch via email to correct your order immediately. Any order placed within 24 hours will be seen as binding and will be processed as normal.
  • Which shipping options are available?
    Local Shipping: We make use of local couriers which deliver within 1 – 4 working days, depending on the area being delivered to. As a benefit to our customers, we do implement a standard R99 delivery fee where applicable for deliveries within South Africa. (This is subject to change at any point depending on fuel costs, etc.) International Shipping: We make use of reliable international couriers which typically deliver within 5 – 10 business days. The price estimate provided for international shipping is dependent on fees, import taxes and any customs duties beyond our control or knowledge.
  • How can I track my order?
    Once an order is processed, you will be emailed with confirmation and shipping details. You will be provided with courier information, including a tracking link and waybill information so that you can track your order.
  • Can I ship internationally?
    We ship our products with the most reliable international couriers available. You will be able to specify your delivery destination during your purchase. We will be sure to assign the most affordable courier based on your address provided. Delivery details, including waybill and tracking, will be provided to you upon confirmation.
  • Can I collect my order?
    Our studio is based in Somerset West, Cape Town. You are welcome to collect your order. If you are in the Somerset West area, you are eligible for free delivery. Collection times are between Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00 (excluding Public Holidays).
  • When will I receive my order?
    If the item you purchased is in stock with us, we will dispatch it either the same day, or the morning after we receive your order. Our courier typically delivers within 1 - 4 working days within South Africa, depending on your area. Custom orders will be shipped after production time as stipulated on the product page, plus 1 – 4 working days for shipping. International orders are subject to restrictions, the country being delivered to and any customs delays, and could take from 5 – 15 working days to arrive.
  • Do you accept returns or refunds?
    If you are unhappy with your item, you may return it within 7 days of purchase. You will be liable for the costs of shipping the item back to us. Your payment for the item will be refunded as soon as we receive your item back and the condition of the item is confirmed. We will not accept any return or refund for an item that has been damaged by the customer, considering the care instructions provided in our FAQ. If your product is broken or damaged upon arrival, you may send it back for repairs or to be replaced. Please see our information on how to properly care for your jewellery to avoid damage to your items.
